ARE YOU A VET PRACTICE WHO WOULD LIKE SUPPORT TO TREAT WILDLIFE IN PRACTICE?
HERE’S A CHECKLIST OF 6 WAYS THAT WE CAN HELP…
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ASK ABOUT ANY OF THE SUPPORT BELOW (FREE) GET IN TOUCH THROUGH ALANA@WILDLIFECAREBADGE.COM.
[We have discovered that lots of Vet Practices aren't aware of this APHA Map for Avian Influenza. It shows whether there are any CONFIRMED cases near you. It is very important that Vet Practices make informed decisions on taking birds in, rather than reacting to inaccurate news reports, which we have seen occurring, leading to the unnecessary euthanasia of healthy baby birds. See the map HERE.]

‘VET WILDLIFE SUPPORT PACKAGE’
(Some helpful ‘how to guides’ created BY Vet Professionals to HELP other Vet Professionals to treat wildlife in practice).
We feel so lucky to have been given the permission to share and make available these resources (created BY wildlife experienced Vets, FOR Vets Practices across the UK) to help Vets Practices to more quickly and easily treat wildlife casualties that get brought into them by members of the public, before they are transported on to local Wildlife Rescues for longer term rehabilitation.

The ‘Vet Wildlife Support Package’ is made up of…
A. A pdf guide from Vet Nurse, Beth Ragan (of Feline & Wildlife Rescue) on how to treat birds within a Vet Practice.
B. A pdf guide from Hedgehog Helpline Founder & Vet Surgeon, Graham, on treating Hedgehogs in Vets Practices.
C. A collection of videos created by Born Free and Secret World (created by Vets, for Vets) to help Vets treat all species of wildlife casualties within Vet Practices.

'WILDLIFE HOSPITALISATION IN PRACTICE' TEMPLATE FORM
This is a form kindly provided to us by a wildlife experienced Vet Surgeon who uses it in her own Practice, so that other Practices can use it too.

THE WCB KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT (AVAILABLE AS A TRAINING TOOL).
Vet professionals are always welcome to take the WCB Knowledge Assessment (free) to test their knowledge base and to see where they might have strengths/weaknesses on various species/practices. It’s totally confidential to take the KA - no one ever has to know except us - and you get a certificate when you pass. Just like new WCB Holders, veterinary professionals are sent the WCB KA Revision Guide in advance, which contains some recommendations for books to purchase too.

PROVIDING VETERINARY SUPPORT ADVICE
The WCB has always been incredibly fortunate in the support and involvement of wildlife expert veterinary professionals (in fact, a few of the most experienced and well known Wildlife Vet Surgeons in the UK have played big roles in creating the WCB Badge itself).

We have been receiving an increased number of requests by Vet Practices for advice on wildlife that have been dropped into them. In response, we have been reaching out to veterinary professionals who are very experienced in wildlife care, to help advise them. Emily Elliott, as a RVN and a highly experienced RSPCA Rehabber, has been called on increasingly as this year has gone on. We have now hired Emily as a 'Wildlife Care Advisor' to advise on cases (however simple or complicated) that you might find have come into your Practice. We have only contracted Emily for a maximum number of monthly hours, so if you would like to get her advice, please email me at alana@wildlifecarebadge.com & I will put you in touch ASAP (usually pretty immediately).

BENEFIT FROM WILDLIFE TRANSPORTER SUPPORT...
A recommendation: UK Wildlife Transporters has been transporting wildlife from Vet Practices to nearby Wildlife Rescues for over 5 years. They provide a free service and a link on how to apply to use the transport service is HERE.

[All fuel for Drivers is funded by UKWT too.]
