WCB 'Accountability Check Ins' - Behind The Scenes...

We’ve just come to the end of catching up with WCB Holders for our last bit of ‘WCB Holder Accountability’, for 2025...

I thought it might be good to share what this looks like, on my side: my note taking…

It’s pretty easy to become a WCB Holder. It’s just a short online Knowledge Assessment & a Veterinary Visit of the premises. In total, it only takes a few hours.

To keep being a WCB Holder is also simple: every quarter I jump on a video call for 5 minutes with each WCB Holder (at a time that is convenient for them) and they show me bits of record keeping/paperwork…

  • Quite often WCB Holder have paper files, rather than digital files, so during the call… They hold up Admission Records to the camera - hiding GDPR sensitive bits - or send me their Admission Spreadsheets, to show me that they’re keeping them. Then they hold up a treatment plan for me to see for an animal they have in - Eg. showing weights, medication dosages, maybe trips to the Vet etc (anything that might be relevant to the casualty’s care).

  • Finally, they then show me proof of working with a Vet at least once that quarter: this could be an invoice from the Vets or often WCB Holders hold up medication bottles with dated prescription labels on, to the camera.

And that’s it.

I have a file to keep on top of all that the WCB does and a section of that is dedicated to WCB Holder info. Each WCB Holder gets their own page and I keep on top of when they’re awarded their Badge, our ‘accountability check ins’ and when they renew. I also make notes on anything that’s important to know about the WCB Holder, like if they would like more Drivers for their UKWT Drivers Team, or if they have any feedback on extra ways that the WCB can support them. [Each ‘accountability check in’ is also set up to be a chance for the WCB to make sure that we check that we’re being supportive enough and seeing if WCB Holders have more ideas on if/how we can help them to help wildlife, in high welfare ways].

Here's a pic of some of my notes...
